The Bioethics and Health Policy Institute
The Institute of Bioethics and Health Policy is an independent research and advisory centre, committed to building an ethical, transparent, and equitable healthcare system. We integrate science, philosophy, and public policy to address the ethical challenges of today and tomorrow.
What is bioethics?
Bioethics is an interdisciplinary field that studies and reflects on the ethical questions arising from developments in medicine, biological sciences, technology, and healthcare. It brings together knowledge from philosophy, medicine, law, sociology, and public policy to address important dilemmas that affect human life and society.
Bioethics does not simply provide “right answers,” but helps in:
-
The moral analysis of complex situations, such as the use of new genetic technologies;
-
The development of guidelines for responsible conduct in scientific research and medical practice;
-
The drafting of public policies that uphold human dignity and promote social justice.
Some questions addressed by bioethics include:
-
Is it ethical to use artificial intelligence to make medical decisions?
-
Who should have equal access to advanced treatments?
-
Should the use of embryos for scientific research be allowed?
In a society that faces new ethical choices every day, bioethics serves as an essential guide for maintaining balance between scientific innovation and fundamental human rights.
Our Values
Intellectual Independence
We are committed to free inquiry, uninfluenced by political, commercial, or institutional interests. Our independence ensures an objective and impartial approach to ethical challenges in healthcare, strengthening the credibility and integrity of the positions we take. This independence forms the foundation of our critical analysis and evidence-based recommendations.
Transparency and Integrity
Every activity of the Institute is guided by the principle of transparency—from how we select our projects to how we publish results. We believe ethical integrity is not just an ideal, but a daily practice. This includes open communication with partners, clear disclosure of sources, and a culture of accountability.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Bioethics does not exist in a vacuum. We integrate perspectives from medicine, philosophy, law, the social sciences, and technology to deliver comprehensive analysis. By building bridges across disciplines, we contribute to ethical policies that are both practical and sensitive to local and global realities.
Equity in Healthcare
At the heart of our work lies the protection of human dignity and the right to equal access to healthcare. We address structural, social, and geographic disparities that limit access to treatments, technologies, and information. Our focus is on amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, including women, rural populations, and people with disabilities.
